“From the moment I first called to make an appointment to the moment I walked out the door afterward, I never once felt uncomfortable, unsafe, or judged. Instead, I felt safe, comfortable, understood, and respected. The attention that was paid to ensure all of these conditions was incredible and the empathy and compassion I was treated with went above and beyond what I ever could have anticipated, expected, or hoped for.” -Mabel Client
For over two decades, Mabel Wadsworth Center has provided people in our community with the highest quality abortion and reproductive healthcare services. As the first abortion provider in the state of Maine, our reputation for excellence is known nationally. We provide client-centered, compassionate, and nonjudgmental care to all of our clients. At Mabel Wadsworth Center, you can expect privacy, an intimate setting, and the time and space you need to make informed and empowered decisions about your health. Our dedicated and caring staff has decades of experience in women’s health and expertise to support you from the time you pick up the phone to make an appointment to when you leave our health center.
We offer both suction abortion and medication abortion (abortion pill). They are both safe and effective. Suction abortions, also known as aspiration abortion, are available at Mabel Wadsworth Center to people within 13 weeks 6 days of their pregnancy measured from their last period. We also offer medication abortions to those who are within the first 70 days (10 weeks) of their pregnancy. We can help you determine which option is best for you.
Every appointment includes a private, confidential and nonjudgmental discussion with a clinical assistant. You will be given plenty of time to ask questions and explore your decision in an atmosphere of compassion and care. We will explain what to expect before, during, and after the abortion and provide information on birth control options.
Almost half of all pregnancies in the United States are unintended. If you are pregnant, you have options. Only you can decide what’s best for you, but we are here to help.
The first step is to contact us. A consultation with one of our highly qualified and caring staff takes 10-15 minutes. At this time, you will be asked for your basic contact information, your medical history, and the first day of your last normal menstrual period (LMP). We will also need to know whether your blood type is negative or positive – if you do not have this information we will make arrangements for you to receive a blood test. People with negative blood types need an additional medication, Rhogam, after every pregnancy.
Medication abortion and suction abortion costs $500. The fee is required upfront and includes all counseling, ultrasounds, and medications. It also includes a follow-up visit 2 to 4 weeks after the abortion. We require a $100, non-refundable, deposit one week before to secure your appointment. If you need to have blood drawn to determine your blood type, you will receive a bill from the lab. Also if you need Rhogam it will be an additional cost of about $40. Many of our clients receive financial assistance to help cover some part of the cost of their abortion services, please talk to us if you need assistance. We are committed to helping women access abortion care regardless of their ability to pay so please contact us as soon as possible so we can work with you to arrange payment. Please do not let cost prevent you from contacting us.
