Mabel's Annual Appeal 2010

The impact of our mission – and your support – is very real and increasingly important. As the effects of the weak economy are felt throughout the region, we expect the number of under- or un-insured women to rise. This increase will present challenges as we strive to continue providing comprehensive reproductive health care.

Mabel Wadsworth Center is one of Bangor’s largest providers of prenatal care for women with MaineCare. In 2008 alone, the Center saw $149,023 in uncollectible debt and charges related to providing this care. That means that almost $150,000 of services will never be paid for – dollars we must raise in order to meet the needs of the next woman. In 2010, we are planning for a 10% increase in that uncollectible amount, posing a measurable obligation in the near future.

Your Annual Fund gift is very important to us. We are being responsible and conservative with our hopes for the remainder of this year and next, while we keep our promise that no woman is ever turned away because of a lack of economic resources.

The impact of your gift will be immediate:

• Gifts of $100 or more help us provide Pap smears and annual exams for women with the fewest resources. Maine has among the highest rates of cervical cancer in the nation; we cannot ignore the need to screen every woman, every year.
• A donation at the $50 level equals a visit for pregnancy options education.
• Every gift of $20 enables us to put a Back-Up Pack© in the hands of a young person in Maine. Mabel’s Back-Up Pack is a fun, fact-filled kit that includes educational information about pregnancy and STD prevention, condoms and other goodies.

Pledge-A-Picket Program

We're stuck with a bunch of lemons...
You can help us turn them into "lemon-aid!"

Every week (sometimes two or three times a week), Mabel Wadsworth Center is picketed by anti-choice activists. You can support women’s rights and turn frustration into fundraising with every visit from our anti-choice picketers!

To join the Pledge-A-Picket Program, please email our Development Office. We'll send you the sign-up sheet (or you can download one here), where you can choose to give based on the frequency of pickets, who shows up to picket, and so on.
